Titles List (updated December 2008)

Descriptive videos are regular, commercial films which have been augmented with special narration which describes the action for people who have visual impairments. As a descriptive video plays, it describes the visual elements of action, characters, locations, costumes and sets to the viewer without interfering with the movie's dialogue or sound effects.

Currently, the Philadelphia Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped has almost seven hundred descriptive videos in its FRIENDS DV COLLECTION. The Collection includes feature films in the Classics, Action and Sci-Fi genres, movies for children including many Disney titles, and PBS documentaries.

Videos in the FRIENDS DV COLLECTION are available to patrons in Eastern Pennsylvania who are registered with the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped of the Free Library of Philadelphia. Patrons may borrow one video at a time, once a month. In order to watch descriptive videos, you need a standard VHS video cassette player (VCR) and a television. No other equipment is needed.

An updated catalog in braille, cassette and large print is currently available. Information about the collection is available via a link at the top of this page.

There is a twenty-five dollar replacement fee for damaged videos.
